Freeze the exact equipment and rack configuration
Start with the equipment nameplate, serial or revision information, current manufacturer drawing and photographs of the actual unit. The purchase file should state that the case is for the Behringer WING Rack—not a WING console, a different rack mixer or a drawing borrowed from a similar model. Also list everything travelling in the case: the mixer alone, or a populated rack with patch panels, power distribution, drawers, wireless receivers or other hardware. The buyer and case engineer should sign off this configuration before dimensions are released for production.
Record the occupied rack units, rail-to-rail mounting arrangement, chassis depth and the deepest installed component. Weigh the real loaded assembly and measure front and rear projections from the rack-mounting plane, including handles, controls, guards, connectors and any permanently fitted adapters. Catalogue dimensions may be useful for comparison, but they do not replace measurement of the exact build. If an item is removable for transport, identify it as removable rather than silently excluding it from the envelope.
Design around plugs, cables and maintenance work
Map every front and rear connection used on tour or in an installation. Measure the complete plug body—not just the panel socket—plus strain relief, latch or release travel and the cable manufacturer’s permitted bend radius. Right-angle and straight connectors can demand very different lid depths. The drawing should show which cables remain connected in transit, which are removed, and whether power, audio and data looms need separate routing or tie-off points.
Service clearance is a working space, not a decorative margin. Confirm room for hands to reach latches, labels and release tabs; for connectors to be unplugged without removing adjacent rack equipment; and for the front and rear lids to clear every protrusion. If maintenance requires sliding the WING Rack forward, removing a panel or accessing fasteners, show that sequence on the approval drawing and reserve the necessary clearance.
Approve rails, isolation and airflow as engineering decisions
Rail location determines both usable depth and load transfer. The buyer and case engineer should confirm the front and rear rail positions, the fastener pattern, any rear support and how the mixer and additional rack equipment share the structure. The same approval must define whether the build uses direct mounting, a suspended rack or another vibration-isolation arrangement. Do not infer an isolation method or performance level from the product name; select it against the actual equipment mass, centre of gravity, transport mode and service needs.
Trace airflow from intake to exhaust on the real, fully populated rack. Lids, cable bundles, patch panels, foam and adjacent devices must not block that path. The buyer should confirm whether the WING Rack is operated in the case, which lids are removed in use, and the direction of airflow for every heat-producing component. Any required ventilation opening or operating restriction belongs on the drawing rather than in an informal email.
Validate the loaded route and control revisions
Calculate and then physically check the loaded centre of gravity. Review caster layout, wheel diameter, brake position, handle height and the risk of tipping at thresholds. Walk the proposed route from storage to vehicle and venue: ramps, liftgates, door openings, corridors, turning points and loading height must suit the finished external size and loaded weight. A case that fits the mixer but cannot pass the truck door or be controlled safely on a ramp is not an approved solution.
Before fabrication, compare the signed drawing with the actual equipment, current photographs and final accessory list. Repeat the review after any change to plugs, rack accessories, rails, isolation parts or operating layout. Record revision numbers and the person approving each change. “Full Black” is only the product name and an appearance identifier here; it does not establish a particular material, coating, certification, load rating, shock rating, test result, lead time, authorization or performance guarantee.
